About Us
Launceston College has been competiting in the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Marathon since 2014. Previously only available to canoe clubs, scout groups and elite private schools, we are incredibly proud to be the only non-fee paying school entering the race. So far 44 students and 4 members of staff have represented the school at this event.
The 125 mile kayak race takes place over 4 days, along the Kennet and Avon Canal, River Thames, and the Thames Tideway, including 77 portages. The race is a severe test of skill, physical and mental stamina and planning which produces a memorable sense of achievement for those successfully completing it.
We also take part in the Waterside Series, the classic DW build-up; a 4 race series along the Kennet and Avon Canal. We have a good track record of taking trophies in the Junior Ladies Class, taking 2nd place in 2016, and 3rd place in 2016 and 2017.
This blog is designed to make it easy for students and parents to get the information they need for training, events and races. It also serves as a reminder to students to look back on and realize the progress they are making.
