Our first training paddle in Exeter is approaching. This requires some more preparation than paddling in Bude due to the more remote conditions. Attached below is a mandatory kit list. Students without all of this kit with be unable to paddle due to the potential risks and subsequent safety concerns. This will be a 10 mile time trial, which is designed to push you outside of your comfort zone. It will be challenging, potentially cold, and a big step up from your last session. Parents are more than welcome to attend if they wish, it is very useful to have additional timers at various checkpoints along the route. We will be leaving the ALC at 8am, or if you prefer to meet in Exeter, we will meet in Michael Browning Way car park (EX2 8DP) at 9am, to be on the water at 9:30am.

Reminder that training will not be going ahead on Monday 30th, straight after half term, due to an INSET day. Many thanks - Mr Gilbert
Attached below are the details of the Fowey Hasler Race at the end of half term. We will be leaving college from the ALC at 9am, and aiming to return at 3pm. Please ensure you bring your normal paddling kit, and a change of warm clothes for afterwards. Food and drink is also important; make sure that you fuel well the day before and bring some proper food and drink for before and after the race. Best of luck to those selected.
This year’s cohort of ‘DW’ paddlers have been working hard over the last month as we approach the end of the first block of training. With 16 students still training to complete the 125 mile kayak race at the end of March, it’s fantastic to seeing them progress from struggling to keep the unstable racing craft the right way up, to all 8 boats completing a 4 mile time trial paddle this Saturday. With an exciting level of competition so early on some of the crews are now ready for our first race – the Fowey Hasler and we look forward to seeing their results at the end of half term! Well done all who have taken part so far, as part of what seems to be our strongest team yet!
